Candy Corn Sugar Cookies

In a large bowl, cream the butter with the  powder sugar. Add the egg, orange zest or extract and mix until well combined.

Add the flour (previously sifted with the baking soda and cream of tartar), little by little and mix until getting an uniform dough.

Divide the dough into thirds. Tint one portion orange, one yellow and leave the third portion plain.

Flatten each portion into a disc. Wrap with kitchen foil and refrigerate overnight.

The next day, roll out the dough into three rectangles, place the orange rectangle on top of the yellow, then the plain.

Starting on a long side, roll the dough into a cylinder. Wrap with plastic foil and refrigerate overnight.

The next day cut the dough in not too thin slices. Lay the cookies in a lined baking tray. Sprinkle with the coarse sugar.

Bake on a previously pre-heated oven at 180°C for 8 minutes.
