Cape Malay Babotie




Heat up a wok and add to it curry poeder, ground ginger, cayenne pepper,sugar,turmeric,salt,pepper and the onions, warm throughly.

Remove the wok from the heat and add the lemon juice, apricot jam, raisins, mango chutney, worcerstershire sauce and the tomato.return to the fire (low) and cook until bubbling (stirring often).

Damp and dice the bread slices.Add to the mixture and stir well.

Add the grond beef and cook for around 15 minutes.

Fill (in ourr case) individual oven proof casserole dishes with the babotie mixture.

Beat the egg with the milk.Add salt and pepper to taste and pour evenly over the babotie mixture.

Bake on a previously pre-heated oven at 180°C for around 45 minutes or until the custard is golden.
