Ingredients:

For the glaze:

Preparation:

In a saucepan over medium fire, melt the butter, add the milk and the water until very warm (but not boiling).

Place in a large bowl 1 1/2 cup of flour, the yeast, salt, anise seeds and the sugar. Add the liquid to it until well combined.

Add the eggs and beat in another one cup of flour.

Continue adding more flour ( one cup at the time) until the dough is soft but not sticky.

Knead on a lightly floured board for about 10 minutes (until smooth and elastic).

Lightly grease a bowl and place the dough in it, cover it with plastic wrap and let is rise in a warm place for around 2 hours.

At the end of the 2 hours punch the dough down.

Shape the loave into the traditional shape ( see the picture).

Ones the dough is shaped let it rise for 1 hour before baking.

Preheat the oven at 180 degrees celcius and bake the bread for around 40 minutes.

Remove the bread from the oven and paint it with the glaze.

For the glaze: Bring all the ingredients to boil for 2 minutes, then apply it to the bread with a brush.
