Pão Doce (Hawaiian Bread)

In a bowl, combine the flour, sugar and yeast.

Add the water and mix well until a soft dough. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and rise at room temperature for 2 hours .

For the dough:

In a bowl, combine the sugar, salt, milk powder and butter.

Mix until getting a soft dough, add the egg yolks and the extract

Mixture is soft, then mix in eggs and extracts.

Add the starter mixture and the flour. Now add the water, but just as much as necessary to obtain a very soft dough.

(The dough should be very supple and soft and not wet or sticky).

Knead by hand 15 minutes. Place in a bowl, cover and let it rise in a warm place for 2 hours.

Divide the dough in 2 .Form each half into a ball.Place each ball on a lined baking tray .

Cover and let it rise for 2 hours in a warm place. Gently brush the loaves with the beaten egg.

Preheat the oven at 180°C. Bake the loaves for 50-60 minutes or until golden brown.
