Pastelitos de Carne

In a bowl mix together the flour, salt and baking powder.

Add the shortening and mix until well blended.

In a blender, blend the egg together with the water.Add the egg mixture to the flour and mix together until getting an uniform dough.

Divide this dough in 10 pieces, and flatten them until getting fine discs from around 1 cm thick and 14 cm diameter.

For the filling:

In a deep saucepan brown the ground meat.

Drain off  on a sift the excess of fat, bring back the maet to the pan and add garlic, ham,oregano, vinegar,salt,olives,capers,sazón,sofrito and tomato sauce.

Bring all this to a boil, reduce the heat and cook for 15 minutes covered.

Uncover the pan and cook for 15 minutes more, stirring occasionally.

Add the raisins and stir well together. (Let it cool down before using for the pastelitos).


Add one tablespoon of meat filling on each pastelito, coat the edge with a little of water and fold over.

Press down the edges with a fork to secure and seal them.

Fry on a deep fryer.

Place on kitchen paper towels to absorb the extra oil.
